Google invests 280 million dollars to make solar energy affordable

To date,Google has invested over $680 million in innovative clean energy companies and projects through Google.org, Google Ventures and Google corporate investments. Google intends to supporte cleantech companies with scalable and potentially breakthrough technologies that could produce renewable energy cheaper than coal.  Some of the google's investments in clean energy - 

Today Google announced a $280 million investment to create a fund, in partnership with SolarCity, to help the company finance more solar installations across US.This is Google's first investment in "distributed" renewable energy (generated and used right at home). The investment is expected to be a  quadruple-win for Google, SolarCity, the environment, and new customers who get access to clean energy at a economic rates.

It's Five years since the first tweet and Twitter is a Gaint Now

Five years ago, answering a simple question like ‘What are you doing?' in 140 characters seemed pointless, even impossible, back then when bloggers took pride over how detailed or nuanced their entries were.

When in 2009, the folks at Twitter changed the vital question that everybody was answering to ‘What's happening?' it indeed reflected a shift in how we perceived microblogging. From mundane updates on breakfast, lunch, and dinner, to a snappy tool — thanks to mobile phones — that allowed people to reflect on what's happening around them,

 Twitter has come a long way. On March 21, it will be five years since Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey sent out the first tweet, a short and not-so-chirpy message: “just setting up my twttr.”

80 years of Indian Talkie Cinema - Google Joins celebration with Doodle for Alam-Ara

Indian Talkie Cinema has completed 80 momentous years...

Alam Ara (The Light of the World; 1931), directed by Ardeshir Irani, was the first Indian sound film. Irani recognized the importance that sound would have on the cinema, and raced to complete Alam Ara before several other contemporary sound films. Alam Ara debuted at the Majestic Cinema in Mumbai (then Bombay) on March 14, 1931. The first Indian talkie was so popular that "police aid had to be summoned to control the crowds."

So today March 14th happens to be the 80th anniversary of this legendary film. And do you know , who is the first one to celebrate this momentous occassion of Indian CInema. It is non other that GOOGLE. Google celebrates the occassion in it's trade mark way by Doodling..

Oxford Study Says - a third of us have used dating websites

An Oxford University study suggests that nearly one in three of us who use the internet have visited online dating sites. An international survey of 24,000 men and women who are presently online found that just six per cent had gone to dating websites in 1997 but by 2009, 30 per cent of the sample had tried them with 15 per cent finding their current partner that way. 

The Oxford Internet Institute (OII) conducted an online questionnaire with 12,000 couples from 18 countries, all of whom had regular access to the internet. They were asked a series of questions about whether they had visited dating websites, other online services and where else they might go looking for a partner. The questions related to the period 1997 to 2009.
