Saurav Ganguly Went Unsold - Gautam Gambhir the Most Expensive

Indian opener Gautam Gambhir was bought by Shah Rukha Khan co-owned Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a whopping approximately Rs 11.04 crore for the fourth edition of Indian Premier League to be held from April 8 to May 20. The KKR dominated the first round of auction of nine marquee players as they also bought T20 specialist Yusuf Pathan for a staggering about Rs 9.66 crore.

It was intense bidding for Gambhir who was the first player under the hammer as Saha Pune Warriors and Mumbai Indians were involved in a bidding war before KKR joined the fray after it crossed the million dollar barrier.

Sahara Pune Warriors opened their account with Yuvraj Singh buying him for Rs 8.28 crore after beating Team Kochi and Kings XI Punjab in the bid.
Kings XI Punjab also lost the bid of Sri Lankan Mahela Jayawardene who was bought by Kochi for one and a half crore.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore bought Zaheer Khan for nine lakh dollars and dashing Lankan opener TM Dilshan for 6 lakh 50 thousand dollars.
However, the VIjay Mallya-owned franchise had a prize catch in talented South African AB de Villiers buying him for a big amount of Rs 5.06 crore. The Rajasthan Royals bought New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor for Rs 4.6 crore.

Muttiah Muralitharan was sold to Kochi for US$1.1 million while Piyush Chawla came a close second in the spinners' category, going back to Kings' XI Punjab for US$ 900,000. Pragyan Ojha and Amit Mishra returned with rather unflattering pay-cheques.

Seven rounds of bidding were over and the biggest shocks came up in second round. The second round opened to a kind of a shocker. Sourav Ganguly went unsold. Australia's new T20 skipper, Cameron White went to the Deccan Chargers for a whooping US$1.1 million.

There was another shocker too with Chris Gayle too remaining unsold. Daniel Vettori fetched less than Johan Botha while S Sreesanth was lapped up by Kochi for US$ 900,000.

Disappointment

Fans of former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Sourav Ganguly are feeling quite low as their favourite star went unsold during the players' auction for the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at Bangalore on Saturday.

From celebrities to common men, all were prompt in reacting over the news as they were expecting to see Ganguly don the jersey of KKR once again in the IPL season 4.“Maybe someone should take all the unsold players and make their own team, Gayle, Gibbs. Lara, Ganguly. Will be fun to say the least!!,” India tennis icon Mahesh Bhupathi tweeted.

“Auction almost as interesting as the matches! But cannot believe no bids for Lara! Or for Gayle, Gibbs, Saurav,” popular TV presenter and journalist Vikram Chandra said.Cricket presenter and actor Mandira Bedi tweeted: “And sad about the fact that there were no takers for Dada. Even VVS and dravid also looked like they were going to be left untouched.”

Meanwhile South African cricket star Herschelle Gibbs, who also remained unsold like Sourav Ganguly and Chris Gayle, said that he feels slightly disappointed as he was not picked up by any of the teams in the ongoing auction period.“About the auction, just wanna say I'm slightly disappointed but easy with all this.very interestin to see whos gone where and for how much,” said South African cricket star,” Gibbs posted on Twitter.

Besides the celebrities, Dada’s fans from all over the nation also reacted strongly on the fact that they will not see their favourite players in the upcoming IPL season 4 in 2011.

Saurav was a great cricketer and good caption in the past but last IPL he did not work good. Many youngsters did work awesome in last IPL. Saurav temperament also not good in cricket so he went unsold.
