Hyper Text Mark up Language(HTML)

Clickto go to the HTML tutorial on Tags and some concepts.

HTML is The Basic Language of webpages. It is an advanced language written in Tags and is quiet easy. Just to show how simple it is, here is a small example. First open notepad,wordpad or any web designing editor like Dreamweaver.. and just paste this code... If you are using Notepad you can simply paste this code... But if you are using some editor like Dreamweaver, Click on the "code" tab which is on the left top corner.. and you will see that much of the code is alreay presen there. Just make the few minor additions.Click here to see the image which shows how it looks in dremweaver.

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<title>This is the title of Your Page </title>
</head>

<body>
write any thing here ..blah .. blah... it will be displayed in your webpage
</body>
</html>

 After pasting it just save it.. if you are using notepad, wordpad when saving click on "Save As Type" in the file saving pop up and select 'All Files' from the drop down. After that type the page name example firstpage.html '.html' is must, it can be '.htm' also. Save it on desktop and once saved open the page from desktop, you will see your webpage. With title and some blah blah written on the page, with default white background.

Now i try to explain what it all is... the tags like this <head> are the basic of HTML. Every tag has a beginning and an ending like <head> and </head> the '/' inside the tag indicates ending. The webpage starts with <html> and ends with it. The first tag after html is head tag and then body. All things like meta tags(which tells search engines what this page is about), includes(for including styleshees-CSS) are included in head. And in the body comes all the stuff that is displayed on the webpage.Tags can have many tags nested in them. Like in the above code one can see title tag nested in head tag.Title tag is to display the title of the Page.

Now it is the basic structure of a webpage, now comes other tags and their attributes. Attributes are the properties of the tags like background colour borders etc.. Now just a slight modification to the above code, let us change back ground colour of our web page.

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<title>This is the title of Your Page </title>
</head>

<body bgcolor="green">
<font color="#FFFFFF">write any thing here ..blah .. blah... it will be displayed in your webpage </font>
</body>
</html>

Now follow the same procedure as above.This time on opening the webpage it will be of green colour with white font. The bgcolor attribute of the body tag indicates the background colour of the webpage, which is written green here. Now the font is of white colour, because we have written '#ffffff' it is the hexadecimal code for white. It is the RBG(Red Blue Green) Code.

Now just as above there are a lot of tags in HTML to serve the purpose. Remembering all and recalling them at required time may be difficult. Thats where Macromedia Dreamweaver comes in to picture. In Dreamweaver, it auto generates code and you can work on like a Word document. You can code very easily in it. When you type a tag and click a blank space all the attributes for that tag element are displayed and you can select what you want. For example if you type <body in Dreamweaver and click white space button it shows all attributes like bgcolor, background etc. which you can choose from. Now the Designing...

With this basic idea and Dreamweaver you can create webpages. In the following section you can find some info on various HTML tags and how to use them.
