Turkey hit by devasting Earth Quake of magnitude 7.3

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 shook southeastern Turkey on Sunday, Turkey's Kandilli Observatory said, triggering the collapse of buildings and killing scores of people.

Turkey's main seismography center says the quake could have killed up to 1,000 people...

Three Ladies to share Nobel Peace Prize 2011 - For non-violent struggle for women's rights

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2011 is to be divided in three equal parts between Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee and Tawakkul Karman for their non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women’s rights to full participation in peace-building work. We cannot achieve democracy and lasting peace in the world unless women obtain the same opportunities as men to influence developments at all levels of society.

The Chapter of Osama Bin Laden is Closed - Video of Obama's historic address

Frankly one of the most hated names of the last decade - " Osama Bin Laden " will now join in the names of dead rather in the list of killed.  Osama bin Laden, leader of al Qaeda and alleged mastermind of the 9/11 terror attacks, was killed in Pakistan in a joint operation involving the United States and Pakistani intelligence forces, according to President Barack Obama.

Looking tired and bleary-eyed, Mr. Obama made a statement shortly after 11:30 pm, in which he confirmed that bin Laden had been killed after a “fire-fight” in Abbottabad, Pakistan, and that U.S. forces then “took custody of his body.”

International Women's Day 2011 - 100 years of Struggle for equality

This year marks the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day. The day was commemorated for the first time on 19 March 1911 in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland, following its establishment during the Socialist International meeting the prior year. More than one million women and men attended rallies on that first commemoration....

UN Launches UN Women as Powerful Driver of Women’s Equality


And finally On 24 February 2011, The United Nations Celebrated the historic launch of UN Women, its newest organization, with an evening including luminaries from the worlds of politics, entertainment, business, the media, music and film in the UN General Assembly Hall. 

UN Women, formally known as the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, combines four previous UN bodies and represents the United Nations’ most ambitious effort ever to accelerate actions to achieve gender equality. Around the world, supporters of women’s rights have heralded its debut.

A powerful earthquake measuring 7.2 shakes various parts of Pakistan - tremors felt in India

In Pakistan, a powerful earthquake measuring 7.2 degree on the Richter scale shook various parts of the country in the wee hours today. It jolted residents of cities as far apart as Delhi and Dubai, but the epicenter was far from major population centres...
